IMHR REGISTRATION
Any horse meeting the height for age requirements may be registered with IMHR Inc. and you must be a member of IMHR Inc. to have a horse in your name.
If your horse is already registered with another society, a copy of those registration papers must be included with your application (they do not have to be current) and the horse must be registered in the same name as it appears in the other registry.
Parentage will be recorded on the certificate (three generations) as per information provided by the owner until August 2009. After that time, parentage must be proven via Stallion Returns, registration with another society or DNA testing.
The owner of the mare at time of foaling has naming rights to the foal and must have a Stud Prefix on record with IMHR. Registration of a Stud Prefix is free and is included with membership.
There are three categories of registration:
- Miniature - up to 34.5" at the highest point of the wither (at mature age)
- Small Horse - up to 38.5" at the highest point of the wither (at mature age)
- Little Horse - up to 42" at the highest point of the wither (at mature age)
In addition, horses must meet the height for age requirements in each section or they will be transferred temporarily to the higher category. More details on height for age are listed in the Standard of Excellence.
Breeding stallions must have a Certificate of Soundness on file before being bred with. This will be annotated on the registration certificate.
Registration certificates also include the following:
- Lethal White Overo testing status
- Equine Influenza testing status (temporarily - removed Feb 08)
- Certificate of Soundness status
- DNA testing status & reference number
- Electronic image storage
- Electronic brand image storage
- Plus three generations of pedigree.
